Application: The Alum-Guard Railing System shown in the photos is a modified version of the original. In this application, the requirement was to have a 6’-0” high glass guardrail system around the balconies at Pioneer Manor, a long-term care facility in Sudbury. The system includes 6 mm (1/4”) clear, tempered safety glass protected and encased in a continuous aluminum channel insert lined with a weatherproof gasket around the perimeter of each glass panel. The panels are supported by 3” square aluminum posts anchored to the concrete balconies. Stiffener tubes, within the posts, and brackets were incorporated for the wind loads acting on the tall glass panels. The glass panels with their aluminum frames were preassembled in the factory and shipped to site ready for installation. The entire system was painted a custom colour to match the building.
