"This project provides the local community with a landmark state of the art educational and community facility, respectful of the Town's culture and history and supportive of Mattawa′s future generations and the forestry industry. Guided by strong community and sustainable influences, the design team for the St. Victor Elementary School whole-heartedly supports the use of wood as the primary construction material. I was inspired by historic companies such as Columbia Forest Products, Tembec and Duval sawmills" Jean Larocque, LEA Architect
Parklex was chosen as the main exterior cladding product. "I chose Parklex because of the authentic look and natural beauty of the product" said Larocque. "I was looking for the right project to showcase this unique product. We used various techniques in the application of the exterior wood panels and was installed using a rain screen system. The stacked wood theme led me to select the colour ′Copper′ - warm, welcoming, natural"
